Every fall thousands of chum salmon return to Bayshore Preserve—and you can help bring this incredible natural phenomenon to life for our community! As a Salmon Docent, you’ll share the wonder of salmon with visitors of all ages, while helping connect people to conservation in action.
Training Highlights:
- Learn the fascinating life cycle and behavior of chum salmon
- Explore Bayshore Preserve and see firsthand the restored salmon habitat
- Get tips and tricks for engaging with the public
- Gain behind-the-scenes insight into our work to protect and restore salmon streams

In person at the Puget Sound Estuarium (Olympia) or join virtually via Zoom

- Optional Site Visit: Saturday, October 25 at 10:00 am at Bayshore Preserve
Salmon Experience Volunteer Shifts
November 8, 9, and 11
Two volunteer shifts each day: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm and 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Bayshore Preserve, 3800 WA-3, Shelton
By volunteering, you’ll play a key role in building awareness about salmon conservation, spark curiosity in kids and adults alike, and be a part of a community working toward a future where nature and people thrive together. This program runs in partnership with Puget Sound Estuarium.
