On call in February and Thursday, March 8
Our native pond breeding amphibians migrate every year during the rainy season from their breeding grounds back to the uplands. These migrations frequently take them across busy roadways where they are not always successful. Studies have shown that roadway mortalities can have a detrimental effect on amphibian populations.
Stream Team is collaborating with Capitol Land Trust to conduct night surveys for migrating amphibians on CLT’s Kaiser Preserve. We need volunteers to help with the amphibian surveys, which entails identifying migrating frog and salamander species as they move between the uplands and the wetlands, and helping them get safely across Kaiser Road. Survey dates are dependent on weather, as amphibians typically migrate during very wet, relatively warm nights. Sign up to be on the on-call notification list and when the weather is projected to be optimum, we will notify you approximately two days in advance with more detailed information. Bring your head lamps and rain gear!
