Continuing a Legacy—Outdoors
In 1997, Curt and Evelyn Walseth made their first of many membership gifts to Capitol Land Trust. Twenty-two years later, children Jim and Nancy Walseth joined a CLT stewardship work party at Lower Eld Estuary Preserve to remove invasive species. That morning spent outside by the water brought up memories of long summers exploring Hood Canal and all those family stories that bubble up when siblings reunite.
After retirement Curt and Evelyn graduated from nature lovers to active environmentalists, from birdwatchers to naturalists. During this journey they moved to Olympia, founded the ‘Walkie Talkies’ hiking group of Mason County, and published a collection of Evelyn’s whimsical ‘birding’ articles as “Bird Call on Hood Canal”.
In 2019, Jim, Nancy, & David Walseth made a gift of $20,050 in honor of their parents Curt and Evelyn (now deceased) and their passion for the outdoors. This gift continues Walseth Family’s legacy of stewardship and outdoor enthusiasm here in the Northwest since the 1950’s.
The Walseth’s have expressed that they are thrilled to be members again and CLT feels the same. If you have any memories of Curt & Evelyn, please share to [email protected]
