We’ve partnered with the Shelton branch of the Timberland Regional Library to install a StoryTrail at Bayshore Preserve. StoryTrails are fun and engaging way for families to combine a love of nature and a love of reading.
The featured book of the StoryTrail is “We Are Better Together” written by Bill McKibben and wonderfully illustrated by Stevie Lewis. This book celebrates the power of teamwork and the beauty of life on Earth and is recommended for children 4-8 years old. The StoryTrail is set up along the Main Loop Trail at Bayshore Preserve and will be available through Labor Day 2022.
Bayshore Preserve is located just north of downtown Shelton on Highway 3 and operated as a golf course for many years. In 2014, Capitol Land Trust conserved the property for wildlife habitat, water quality protection, and passive recreation. The mile and a half trail system is relatively flat and showcases a variety of natural wonders including large Garry oak trees, Johns Creek, and Oakland Bay. The preserve is open to the public from dawn to dusk. There is no parking pass or fee required to visit.
On June 21, 2022, CLT and the Shelton Timberland Library hosted a family outing to the preserve to explore and check out the new StoryTrail. Two brothers especially enjoyed reading the book together, with the older brother helping the younger one read the pages.
“The Shelton Timberland Library is excited for this partnership opportunity to combine a love of nature and reading at Bayshore Preserve. We look forward to future collaborations and events!” – Cameron Miller, Library Associate, Shelton Timberland Library
StoryTrails are pages from children’s books set up along local trails so visitors can enjoy the trails and read a picture book and enjoy interactive facts and questions as they go. Find a StoryTrail near you at https://www.trl.org/storytrail.
