Come read Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree as it was meant to be experienced: in nature. In partnership with the Shelton Timberland Library, this special bilingual StoryTrail will be at Bayshore Preserve through August 30. StoryTrails are a fun and engaging way for families to combine a love of nature and a love of reading.
Bayshore Preserve is a 78-acre nature preserve near Shelton. This golf course-turned-nature preserve is the perfect place to spend a summer afternoon with the family!
- Parking is free
- Pets on leash
- Pack out garbage, including pet waste
- Portable toilet available
Transit Options: Mason County’s free Dial-A-Ride service. Mason County Transit Route 1. There is no marked bus stop at the preserve, so let the driver know when you plan to get off.
Notice: Temporary Closures at Bayshore Preserve
Bayshore is undergoing improvements July 7, 2025, through October 2025. While the preserve will remain open during construction, visitors should expect temporary closures to the main parking lot, bathroom, and some trail sections. Alternative parking is available via WDFW’s Oakland Bay Recreation Area (3990 WA-3, Discover Pass required. One can be checked out from the library). Starting July 2, the StoryTrail is located at the trailhead beginning at the WDFW site. See project updates and what’s open.
