The number of properties CLT stewards is growing every year, and many of our properties need more care than just one monitoring visit a year. To meet these needs, we have diversified the tasks available to Land Stewards, and are recruiting more volunteers! This is a great opportunity to visit some of our conserved properties that are not generally open to the public.
Volunteer Land Stewards can commit to one or more of the following:
- Accompany Mike, Stewardship Coordinator, or another Land Steward on the annual monitoring visit to a property;
- Accompany another Land Steward on one or more mid-year monitoring visits to a CLT preserve;
- Be part of an organized “Friends-of” group for Bayshore, Darlin Creek, Hilburn or Randall preserves (CLT’s public-access preserves), whose members will walk and maintain trails, pick up litter and keep an eye on things;
- Help run a “Friends-of” group on one of Capitol Land Trust’s public-access preserves;
- Visit a CLT preserve on your own initiative to remove invasives or trash;
- Help plan and run a volunteer event on a CLT preserve; and/or
- Help the owner of one of our privately owned conservation properties remove invasive plants.
In addition, Land Stewards can volunteer on any day of the week (including weekends)—and can download a monitoring app to their smart phone or other smart device, or borrow monitoring equipment from the CLT office. If you want to take advantage of this great opportunity to help CLT steward the properties it has conserved, contact Mike Leigh at [email protected] or at 360-943-3012 extension 8.
