Photo by Bruce Livingston.The number of properties CLT stewards is growing every year, and many of our properties need more care than just one monitoring visit a year. To meet these needs, we have diversified the tasks available to Land Stewards, and are recruiting more volunteers! This is a great opportunity to visit some of our conserved properties that are not generally open to the public.
Volunteer Land Stewards can commit to one or more of the following:
- Accompany Mike, Stewardship Coordinator, or another Land Steward on the annual monitoring visit to a property;
- Accompany another Land Steward on one or more mid-year monitoring visits to a CLT preserve;
- Be part of an organized “Friends-of” group for Bayshore, Darlin Creek, Hilburn or Randall preserves (CLT’s public-access preserves), whose members will walk and maintain trails, pick up litter and keep an eye on things;
- Help run a “Friends-of” group on one of Capitol Land Trust’s public-access preserves;
- Visit a CLT preserve on your own initiative to remove invasives or trash;
- Help plan and run a volunteer event on a CLT preserve; and/or
- Help the owner of one of our privately owned conservation properties remove invasive plants.
In addition, Land Stewards can volunteer on any day of the week (including weekends)—and can download a monitoring app to their smart phone or other smart device, or borrow monitoring equipment from the CLT office.
