Join us for Second Saturdays at Bayshore Preserve as we explore the fascinating world of fungi that thrives all around us and often goes unnoticed.
This guided outing introduces participants to the mushrooms and fungi that appear across the landscape as the rainy season arrives. Bayshore Trail Steward and Kitsap Peninsula Mycological Society member Sable Burgess will lead the walk, sharing insights about the mushrooms that grow at Bayshore Preserve and the important role fungi play in forest and prairie ecosystems.
Whether you’re curious about mushrooms or simply interested in learning more about the hidden life of the landscape, this is a great way to discover something new while spending time outdoors with community.

What to Expect
- Learn more about the mushrooms and fungi that appear at Bayshore Preserve during the fall season
- A slow-paced walk on mostly flat trails made up of compact gravel and dirt
- Opportunities to observe fungi and learn about their role in the ecosystem—we will not be collecting mushrooms
- Insights from local mycology enthusiast and Bayshore Trail Steward
- An ADA-compliant portable toilet available near the kiosk
What to Bring
- Sturdy walking shoes
- A water bottle
- Weather-appropriate clothing for fall conditions
A Note About Parking
Overflow parking will be open for event participants at 9:30 am. Please allow a few extra minutes to park and walk to the kiosk so the group can begin together at 10:00 am.

Second Saturdays is a free monthly event series held at Bayshore Preserve from April–November. Each month focuses on a different nature topic and offers a welcoming way for people of all ages to learn, explore, and connect with the outdoors and with community.
